SBU's Wind Symphony, University Band, Percussion Ensemble in concert April 27

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University department of music will present the Wind Symphony, University Band and Percussion Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.

Works by Dukas, Fučik, Mackey and Vaughan Williams will be featured by the Wind Symphony, while the University Band will perform music by Carter, Bach, Ticheli, King, Allen, Gorb and Strommen. The Percussion Ensemble is conducted by Marc Baker, percussion faculty associate, and features music for five players.

“There is a little something for everyone in this concert,” said Dr. Brian K. Hopwood, professor of music and director of instrumental studies at SBU.

“Six student conductors will be leading the University Band in a wide variety of musical styles and forms, which include an overture for band, organ transcription, American folk music, American march, spiritual and a tango. The Wind Symphony’s music includes a brass fanfare, European march and Vaughan Williams’ wind band classic, ‘English Folk Song Suite.’”

The concert is free and open to the public.
