What Makes Earning a Music Degree at SBU Special?
- The SBU department of music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music; in addition, the SBU music education program is compliant with certification requirements of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Nearly 100% of our music major graduates find positions within their field upon graduation.
- Most students majoring in music complete an internship in their field. Recent placements have included assisting in school music programs, with church music, at radio stations and recording studios.
- Our Chorale tours internationally — in Italy in 2003, in Germany in 2006 and in Austria in 2010.
- The department of music, including both faculty and students, is a close-knit family with all the support, growth, and fun that comes from working, studying, and playing together.
- Our SBU band tours regionally, representing the university in school and church performances.
- Higher Ground, our Christian Worship ensemble, tours the nation sharing contemporary Christian music and sharing the message of Jesus Christ.
- SBU offers ensemble opportunities in Symphonic Winds, Chorale, Orchestra, Concert Choir, Opera Theatre, Jazz Ensemble, Higher Ground, Chamber Singers, Pep Bands, and chamber ensembles (brass, woodwind, strings, and percussion).
