Master of Science in Education

This is the basic program of graduate studies in education. All applicants accepted for graduate study must have graduated, or be scheduled to graduate, during the current academic year, from a regionally accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree comparable in content and credit hours with degrees granted by Southwest Baptist University.

An undergraduate student, enrolled on the SBU campus in Bolivar, interested in taking courses for graduate credit during the last year of undergraduate work may register for graduate courses with the approval of the office of Graduate Studies in Education. For more information about the procedures and stipulations please see the excerpts from the Graduate Catalog "Admissions" section quoted online in the Admissions page.

The requirements for the Master of Science in Education Degree are found in the Graduate Catalog on the Degree Requirements (PDF Page 247) section.

For the applicant who has taken certifiable subject matter courses on his baccalaureate program but does not have teacher certification, a "Master's Degree Teacher Certification Program" is offered. See the Catalog (PDF p. 252) for the details. To learn what subject matter courses are required for certification in the several fields available see the Teacher Education Certification page.

SBU's Department of Graduate Studies in Education does offer coursework required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the Temporary Authorization Certification (TAC). See the Catalog (PDF pp. 253).
