Library Instruction

University Libraries actively support student learning by providing library orientation and class instruction to help students:

  • reduce library anxiety

  • understand the research process

  • distinguish journals from magazines

  • locate a variety of resources for a specific topic

  • enhance search skills for electronic resources

  • interpret search results

  • evaluate information retrieved

Bibliographic instruction sessions are designed to fit course needs.  Library faculty will provide this instructional service in the library, in an electronic classroom or regular classroom, as appropriate.

Library faculty will work in partnership with the classroom faculty member, to arrange for a library assignment (graded or non-graded exercise) and/or web-based library resource pages.

Library assignments may be discipline-specific, course-specific or topic-specific.
