CMMC - Communication & Mass Media Complete

CMMC provides the most robust collection of high-quality research in areas related to communication and mass media. Contemporary Literary Criticism--Select is an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors. Each CLC--Select entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, listing of principal works and sources for further study.

 

Current Biography
Current Biography (TM) contains more than 15,000 full text biographies and more than 9,400 obituaries from all of the volumes of Current Biography Yearbook, from 1940 to the present. The biographies are searchable by name, profession, title, place of origin, gender, race/ethnicity, titles of works, date of birth, date of death, and keywords.

 
Dissertation Abstracts
With more than two million entries, Dissertation Abstracts is the single, authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities. Some 47,000 new dissertations and 12,000 new theses are added to the database each year.

The database includes bibliographic citations for materials ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Citations for dissertations published from 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts.

 

EBSCO Animals
EBSCO's Encyclopedia of Animals offers in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Within some of the full text, image links are available for the Windows client. Images are accessed by double-clicking any image graphic.

 

ECO-Electronic Collections Online
ECO contains a broad range of information from agriculture, economics, philosophy, technology, and many more. It indexes over 5,000 titles and includes full original content for some of those titles.

Education Full-Text
Wilson Education Full Text Covers indexes and abstracts over 475 international education periodicals, monographs (since 1995), and yearbooks. It includes the full text of over 200 periodicals. E.R.I.C.
The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a digital library of education-related resources, sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. As the ERIC digital library opens to the public on September 1, 2004, the collection consists primarily of electronic bibliographic records describing journal and non-journal literature selected by ERIC from 1966 - 2003. In the months and years ahead, the collection will expand to include the full-text of articles along with other electronic resources such as audio and video materials.

HealthSource: Consumer Edition

MEDLINE
A database from the National Institute of Health that
covers "biomedicine and health, broadly defined to encompass those areas of the life sciences, behavioral sciences, chemical sciences, and bioengineering needed by health professionals and others engaged in basic research and clinical care, public health, health policy development, or related educational activities. The majority of the publications covered in MEDLINE are scholarly journals; a small number of newspapers, magazines, and newsletters considered useful to particular segments of NLM's broad user community are also included." MICROMEDEX
MICROMEDEX is made up of a couple different databases. MICROMEDEX Healthcare Series has a "wide range of clinical databases, including unbiased, referenced information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine. "CareNotes System provides patients with complete, easy-to-understand information about all aspects of their care, medications, and health, in English or Spanish." "Formulary Advisor is an easy-to-use online formulary management tool to effectively manage and update a hospital's formulary and communicate the most current formulary information facility-wide." PDR Electronic Library "provides instant access to FDA approved drug information to include drug interactions, side effects, recommended dosages, contraindications, and more."

Military & Government Collection
Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for more than 300 journals and periodicals. The database also includes full text for 245 pamphlets and offers indexing and abstracts for more than 400 titles. Some publications covered in this database include are Air Force Controller, Army Reserve Magazine, Defense Studies, Global Security Review, Joint Force Quarterly, Military Technology, National Review, Defense, Combat Edge, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Foreign Affairs, Naval Forces, and many more. MLA
Literature, language, linguistics, folklore. Provides over one million citations for items from journals and series published worldwide. Indexes books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies. Contains in each record a bibliographic citation for a journal article, book, or other item including information about the libraries that own the library resources. Now includes the MLA Directory of Periodicals, which provides full information on more than 4,000 journals and series in the MLA International Bibliography Master List of Periodicals. The Directory of Periodicals includes many of the periodicals that are indexed in the MLA International Bibliography database. The electronic Directory of Periodicals is updated every six months.

Physical Education Index

Physical Education Index allows all researchers and professionals in the field to acquire accurate and scholarly information.  These abstracts feature a wide variety of content, ranging from physical education curricula, to sports medicine, to dance. Other coverage includes sport law, kinesiology, motor learning, recreation, standardized fitness tests, sports equipment, business and marketing, coaching and training, and sport sociology/psychology. Health education and physical therapy are also covered as they continue to become more prevalent in our society. 1970 - current.

 

Primary Search
Primary Search, designed specifically for elementary school libraries and public library children's rooms, contains full text for more than 60 popular, elementary school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 100 magazines. Full text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets. Examples of publications covered in Primary Search include: Appleseeds, Boys' Life, Cobblestone, Cricket, Highlights for Children, Hopscotch, Jack & Jill, Ladybug, Ranger Rick, Science World, Spider, SuperScience, Time for Kids, Turtle, and many more. This database also provides the American Heritage Children's Dictionary, 3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin, and an Image Collection of 107,000 photos, maps and flags. Many full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. Full text back files go as far back as 1989, while indexing and abstract back files go as far back as 1984.

ProQuest Psychology Journals

With complete information from over 400 top psychology and related publications, this database meets the needs of both students and mental-health professionals. All the source publications are available in the ASCII full-text format. Nearly all of them also offer articles in the full-image and Text+Graphics Science & Technology formats.
