Tips to Avoid Malware
Think before you click. Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to infiltrate a computer without the owner's informed consent.
The SBU Computer Services department has installed Sophos Antivirus software on each university computer. Sophos searchs for malware and other viruses when your computer is on.
If you notice you are getting random pop-ups or your personal computer at home is running slow, you may have malware on your computer. There are several free anti-malware and anti-virus detection downloads available for your personal computer including Ad Aware, Spybot - Search and Destroy, and Malwarebytes. However, unlike Sophos, these products require you have to manually scan your computer for viruses.
