November 14, 2007
This has been a fast two weeks! November is passing by so quickly that it’s hard to keep up. I know it’ll be time to go home before I even know it. However, Joanna and I have a lot to do before that time comes.
Our Ethnography paper is due in a little more than two weeks. Please pr*y for us as we continue our research for and write it. We have begun putting information together for the paper, but still have a lot of work ahead of us in the next two weeks! Your pr*yers will be much appreciated during this time! J
I am glad to report that I have been spending a lot of time with my students from my night class the last couple of weeks! This is something I have been pr*ying for all semester, and it is finally happening! You all know I had a very rough start with my students and felt discouraged about building relationships with them. However, I have kept pr*ying that they would feel comfortable with me and I with them and that the walls between us would begin to crumble. Well, Father has been faithful in answering those pr*yers! These past two weeks have been amazing! I have been able to spend time outside of class with 10 of my students! I have gone hiking with some of them, to lunch and dinner with some others, I took one student shopping, and even visited one of my student’s homes. It’s been great! I have really enjoyed getting to know them better. I can’t believe how much I love them. I have been pr*ying that Dad would give me a genuine love for my students and He has answered that pr*yer as well. It seems that every time I see them I love them more and more! It’s actually kind of funny because I find myself just wanting to talk to them all the time in class. I will give them projects to do during class and then find myself walking around interrupting them because I want to talk to them! J But I suppose that’s a good problem to have. Please keep pr*ying that these relationships will continue to grow, especially since they know I’m leaving pretty soon. I don’t want them to feel like they can’t get to know me better because I’m leaving so soon. Thank you so much for all your pr*yers! They really do make a difference!
Joanna and I have also been working really hard to learn more Chinese. We have a list of 100 phrases that we have been studying. One of our friends, who is a student at YUST, gave it to us and said that if we could learn at least most of it, we would be doing really well. We are meeting with him several times a week to practice and are finding that the pronunciation comes pretty easily to us but the tones are extremely difficult, especially for me. I am also having a hard time remembering what I study. This is very frustrating because I am usually able to remember things that I study really well and quickly, but for some reason Chinese is not coming easily at all. I study a lot it seems and just cannot remember it! So please remember these specific things when you pr*y! J Thanks!
I miss you all and will see you very soon!
Wo qi wang jian dao ni! (I’m looking forward to seeing you!)
