Department of Education
Our education department is a point of distinction at SBU. School districts know when teachers graduate from SBU they will be well prepared to teach in the classroom and be leaders in the academic community. For this reason, a large percentage of our most recent graduating classes of teachers are already using their degree professionally. Many others have chosen to attend graduate school.
The SBU difference begins with a caring, close-knit professor/student community that provides lots of interaction, both in and out of the classroom. Another distinction is the amount of classroom experience each student receives in the field. From the sophomore year on, students spend time with teachers in the field, learning the ropes, observing and assisting students. The result? When you graduate from SBU with a degree in education, you are ready to teach.
