I earned my initial teaching certificate at SBU which qualifyed me to teach in Missouri public schools. Teaching experience and my initial certification then led me to pursue advanced degrees in Physical Education and Educational Administration. I completed my professional preparation by completing a doctorate at the University of Kansas. Careers in the field of Education combine experience in the classroom with advanced degrees. SBU's program more than prepared me for both.
Students interested in a career in Education must love students and love to work with them. I like the word passion in describing their interest in teaching. As students gain experience in the field they may find additional areas such as administration, counseling or coaching that interest them. Initial certification will give them the necessary foundation to enter these related areas.
