Ken Spurgeon, Ed.S.
& Clinical Experiences Coordinator
Bolivar, MO 65613
Current Research: "None: I am trying to update my knowledge of Teacher Certification in Missouri so that I can assist students with their teaching license."
Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? "The Christian atmosphere was the biggest draw to me in applying for a position with SBU. I have always enjoyed teaching and the opportunity to combine teaching with the administrative side of coordinating clinical studies and certification seemed to be a good fit."
Educational and Professional Background: Spurgeon received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Pittsburg State University (Pittsburg, KS). A Bachelors of Science in History lead to a career that involved teaching secondary social studies and coaching high school sports, mainly girls basketball. A desire to expand his impact on students lead to a Master of Science in Secondary School Administration and eventually his first principalship. Completing an Educational Specialist Degree in School Administration opened the door to become a superintendent of schools from which he retired in 2005 while at Stockton R-1 Public Schools.
Faith Dedication: I have always found strength in Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.'" I have also tried to live by Micah 6:8, "And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" The Spurgeon family is active in First Southern Baptist Church of Stockton, where Spurgeon is a Sunday School teacher, deacon and licensed minister.
