Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? "I enjoy being involved in teacher preparation at Southwest Baptist University especially because SBU's educational purposes match my own. It is a joy to work with faculty who believe it is essential to help students develop Christian leadership skills along with a Biblical understanding of relevant educational issues. Before coming to SBU, the guiding scripture that I adopted as a teacher was Peter's exhortation to diligently "add to faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity" (II Peter 1:5-7). To my surprise, the education department had just adopted this verse as their guiding verse."
Faith dedications: Dr. Cavner is an active member at First Baptist Church in Bolivar and enjoys singing in the choir. She also leads a Bible Study, writes children and teen discipleship materials for a Christian publisher, attends a Chinese home fellowship, and teaches for mission outreaches in Asia and Africa.
Interests and Hobbies: Mission Trips, Grandchildren, camping and travel, exercise, and reading.
