We have more than 350 sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing certification in over 20 areas.
2. What areas of certification do you offer?
You'll find a detailed description on the Degrees, Majors and Certifications webpage.
3. When do students begin their clinical experiences (field experiences, practicums)?
Students participate in their first field experience along with their sophomore level classes. This experience is primarily observing and assisting a classroom teacher depending on area of certification. The second field experience is connected with junior level methods courses. The final field experience is 12 weeks of student teaching completed fall or spring of the senior year. Students are placed within a 50-mile radius of the Bolivar or Mountain View campus.
4. What tests are required for students seeking certification?
Missouri requires all pre-service teachers to pass all sections of the CBASE (College Basic Academic Skills Exam) prior to being admitted into a Teacher Education program. Students must pass the Praxis exam required for their initial area of certification prior to student teaching.
5. What if I want to teach in another state?
Our certification officer has the guide to certification in all 50 states to assist students and graduates with that process.
