Southwest Baptist University

Mindy (Weno) Having, Biology Alumnus

"My biology degree opened the door for me to get into the Physical Therapy program at SBU to obtain a Master's degree.  At this time, I am currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy.  The awesome instructors at SBU gave me encouragement and went the extra mile (sometimes miles :) ) to help me learn.  The Christ-like examples displayed to me at SBU helped to strengthen my faith as well.  The great scientific foundation I gained while in the Bilolgy program set the stage for my career in Physical Therapy and my doctorial pursuit.

I am currently employed at Cox Health Systems in Springfield, Missouri.  I am an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist and work with general orthopedic injuries. I am lympedema trained and have a special interest in aquatic physical therapy.  My most recent endeavor involves starting the cancer fatigue program at Cox's Hulston Cancer Center.  This is the first of it's kind in the region.  I am very excited and blessed to be able to work with patients that are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation to help decrease their fatigue levels.  My husband Matt and I live outside of Clever, Missouri and share our home with our two dogs, Thelma and Louise.

To those considering a Biology degree from SBU, I say 'go for it!!!' My degree has opened so many doors for me, a Biology degree can take you around the world.  It can open opportunities in teaching, healthcare, conservation and many other areas.  Determine the area that you love and then go for it.
