Dr. Derryberry has been active professionally throughout his tenure at SBU. His major interests in writing and convention participation at a variety of levels continue to focus upon forensics education and leadership. With his colleagues, he has also authored works in argumentation, debate and speech writing.
Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? “My affiliation with the University began with my teaching at SWBC in 1961. I treasure every memory of the University and the students whom I have taught in four decades. I look forward to every class as a special opportunity.”
Faith Dedications: Dr. Derryberry, an active Baptist for over fifty years, is a member of First Baptist of Bolivar. He has spoken for many church and school occasions through the years.
Educational and Professional Background: Dr. Derryberry completed the Bacelor of Arts. and Master of Teaching degrees at East Central Oklahoma State . He earned the Master of Arts at the University of Arkansas and the Ph.D. in speech at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Courses Taught: Speech Fundamentals, Interpersonal Communication, Argumentation and Debate, Oral Interpretation, Speech-Theatre Methods, Parliamentary Procedure, and American Public Address.
Hobbies and Interests: Writing, walking, yard work, and travel.
