Courses Taught: Coordinator of Simulations for the College of Nursing.
Educational background: Barber earned her RN (Registered Nurse) from Mercy School of Nursing in 1983, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southwest Missouri State University in 1986, and an Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993.
Why do you enjoy teaching? "I love having a small part in shaping the future of nursing through our students. As a nurse, and as the Simulation Coordinator, I get to use my creative side in caring for patients and teaching students. For I believe, as Florence Nightingale said, 'Nursing is an art, and it it is to be made an art, it requires as exclusive a devotion, as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work; For what is having to do with dead canvas or cold marble, compared with having to do with the living body - the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts; I had almost said the finest of the fine arts.' "
