Your Future in Radiologic Technology

The field of radiologic technology is a rapidly expanding and rewarding career choice. The continued diversity of imaging and therapeutic technologies offers a bright future for the registered Radiologic Technologist.

Radiologic Technologists are the health care professionals who use x-rays and other energies for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in medicine. A Radiologic Technologist who specializes in the use of x-rays to create diagnostic images of a patient is called a radiographer. The radiographer performs a wide variety of X-ray procedures to produce images of bones, organs, and vessels under the direction of physicians called radiologists. Radiographers may remain in the discipline of diagnostic x-ray or they may choose to further their education in specialized areas such as ultrasonography, vascular-interventional radiography, cardiac catheterization, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, or radiation therapy. Each of these areas generally requires an additional six months or a one year educational commitment.

Other areas of expanded responsibility include: education, supervision, and even commercial/sales or research. Ordinarily experience and a college degree are required for these advanced positions.

Clinical Experience

Radiologic technology students have the opportunity to learn about radiology services using the most advanced state of the art equipment including:

The students are provided with an ample variety and volume of radiographic procedures. Procedures are performed on adult and pediatric patients in Radiology Services as well as in the Emergency Trauma Center, Operating Room, and at the patient's bedside. Clinical training (practicum) includes competency achievement in radiographic examinations.

During the second year, students will continue to perform radiographic examinations on an advanced level. Additionally, students receive introductory experience in specialty areas including:
