Education and professional background: Bailey graduated from Southwest Baptist College in 1981 with a degree in accounting/business administration. She then completed her M.B.A. from Oklahoma State University through the University Center at Tulsa in 1986. In 1988 she earned her Certified Public Accountant certification. She also became a Certified Management Accountant in 1996 and in 2013 received her Chartered Global Management Accountant designation and Certified Government Financial Manager certification. Prior to coming to SBU, Bailey worked as a staff accountant for Phillips Petroleum Company (now ConocoPhillips) and worked for a family owned restaurant business in Bartlesville and Tulsa, Okla. She began teaching at SBU in 1994 where she teaches courses in the areas of financial accounting, managerial cost accounting, government and not-for-profit accounting and accounting informational systems.

Family: Mrs. Bailey has been married to her husband, Kevin, since 1983 and they have two very spoiled Airedale Terriers named MacGyver and Pete. The dogs are rescue dogs obtained through Airedale Terrier Rescue and Adoption (ATRA).

Community involvement: Bailey and her husband are members of Southern Hills Baptist Church and are active with the Mid-Lakes Baptist Association. They also volunteer for the ATRA “underground railroad” to help rescue dogs and move them to new homes.

Why did you choose to teach at SBU? “I am an alum of SWBC/SBU. I had a great experience the three years I was here. I want all my students to have at least as good of an experience as I had.”

What sets SBU apart from other universities? “My first year of college was at a different school. I was not happy there for a number of reasons. The things that were missing there I found at SBU. At SBU you are offered a great education with wonderful faculty who treat you like you matter. The faculty and staff are interested in your academic and spiritual growth. The small class sizes allow the opportunity to give students individual attention and to really get to know them. The M&Ms I keep in my office don’t hurt either.”

What advice do you have for prospective students? “I thought when I went to college I had to follow my friends and stay close to home. That was such a mistake. Go somewhere where you can get a great faith-based education to get you on the right path after college. Go somewhere where you can be happy and feel safe. Go where people will care about you. Go to SBU!!!”

What is your favorite thing to do in Bolivar/Southwest Missouri? “I like the quiet life and I love the beauty of Southwest Missouri. My husband and I like to take the dogs to Pomme de Terre Lake to walk and watch Pete wade in the lake. Bennett Springs State Park (known for its fishing) also has a great trail. I also love to sit on my front porch and read or just enjoy God’s creation. If I want a little more excitement, Springfield and Branson are just down the road.”
