Education and professional background: Wehmeyer received a B.A. in Theatre and History from Southwest Baptist University and an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Central Missouri. He began teaching at SBU in 2011. Prior to coming to SBU, Wehmeyer taught at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., and served on the Board of She and Her Productions in Kansas City for two years. Additionally, Wehmeyer taught theatre in Switzerland for two summers (2010-2011) through TASIS (The American School in Switzerland). Wehmeyer teaches courses at SBU in the areas of directing, stagecraft, scene design, lighting design, makeup, theatre management, introduction to film and introduction to theatre. His primary professional interests are in the history and theory of theatre, as well as the role of theatre as an academic pursuit.

Community involvement: Wehmeyer attends First Baptist Church in Bolivar where he plays the euphonium (baby tuba) in the orchestra.

Why did you choose to teach at SBU? SBU is a unique type of school that provides students with an education through the lens of a Christ-centered life. As an alumnus, I knew I could help these students understand and deal with the challenges of being a Christian in a decidedly secular profession.

What advice do you have for prospective students? Read plays!

What is your favorite thing to do in Bolivar/Southwest Missouri? Anything! I'm always game for a new adventure. I love to try new things with new people.
