Why do you enjoy teaching at SBU? "The 'family' of music students, faculty and staff within our department strikes that coveted balance between being large enough to produce a great variety of musical experiences for our students, yet small enough that everyone knows and supports one another."
Educational Background: Dr. Waters earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Jacksonville State University in Alabama; the Master of Music degree and in Woodwind Performance, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Georgia.

He has served previously as the national second vice-president of the North American Saxophone Alliance, and has been a featured soloist at the organization’s national conferences. He was a founding member of Verismo! saxophone quartet, and as a freelance musician he has performed in numerous professional ensembles, including the Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra, the Macon (GA) Symphony Orchestra and the Springfield (MO) Symphony Orchestra; and has performed in orchestras for shows which have featured Marvin Hamlisch, Rosemary Clooney and Wayne Newton.
