Educational and Professional Background: Martin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education from Drury College, Springfield, Missouri in 1979. He later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Columbia Law School in Columbia, Missouri in 1983.
Martin's academic experience includes 18 years of teaching at SBU in Bolivar, Missouri; Drury College, Sterling College and Tarkio College in Springfield, Missouri; and the Springfield Missouri Police Academy, Missouri Police Certification Courses, and a Trial School Critiquer, Missouri Office of Prosecution Services, in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Martin's professional experience includes serving as a Police Officer for the Springfield Police Reserves, in Springfield, Missouri; the Reserve Greene County Deputy Sheriff and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Greene County, Missouri; Assistant City Prosecutor in Columbia, Missouri; Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Jasper County, Missouri; part-time Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Christian County, Missouri; and established a Solo Law Practice in Springfield, Missouri.
Church Activities: Kelly has been a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri for 18 years. He has taught Sunday School in numerous capacities and still teaches on an as-needed basis. Kelly also drives the church van picking up the elderly ladies on Sunday morning and Sunday night. He has sung in the choir and has been in several drama presentations. Kelly and his wife are care group leaders in the Sunday school class. Kelly is also an ordained deacon in another church.
