LADY CATS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH WIN OVER WILLIAM JEWELL

February 13, 2005

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO. ... The Lady Cats opened the 2005 spring season against a very tough William Jewell team, which was ranked #19 nationally in the NAIA. SBU came away with a hard fought and well deserved win, 7-2 and improved Southwest Baptist's overall record to 3-0 on the season now.

The number one doubles team of Charlotte Heidelberg / Chelsey Janzen set the tone with a convincing win, followed by two more double's points, giving SBU a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play. "We’ve been spending a lot of time on doubles play during the off season and it paid off. If we can continue to get production out of our doubles teams, then we’ll be able to compete with anyone this year," said Head Coach Ray Still.

Head Coach Ray Still: "Even though we looked nervous at times and played sporadically, when the pressure was on, we turned in some good performances. We still have a relatively young team, with four freshman in the starting line-up, but the veterans have stepped up and assumed leadership roles. As long as we keep working hard and learning from our mistakes, we’ll continue to improve. This was a good match to start the year out for our ladies and will give us some early confidence heading into the rest of the season."
