BOLIVAR, MO. ...In the most anticipated matchup in the MIAA and most significant in SBU history, the Lady Bearcats fought their way back for a comeback tie 1-1 in double-overtime versus Truman St. on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Soccer Field. With the tie, the Lady Bearcats remain unbeaten in conference play this season and improved to 9-1-2 overall in 2004. The Lady Bearcats are nearly perfect in the MIAA.
In the 73rd minute, freshman Hayley Moorwood found junior Ashley Munnelly deep inside TSU territory in the 73rd minute to even the game at 1-1. Truman State, entering the game as the second-ranked NCAA Division II women's soccer team broke a scoreless tie in the 65th minute on a goal scored by 1 st Team All-American and reigning MIAA Most Valuable Player, senior Sara Murray.
SBU outshot the Lady Bulldogs (11-0-2 overall, MIAA 6-0-2) on the match, 14-9. The Lady Bearcats had five corner kicks in the match while Truman St. only had two. Junior goalkeeper, Sara Eppler made four saves.
The tie was only the second time SBU has ever earned a result against the five-time MIAA Champion Truman St. Lady Bulldogs. The other result came on October 5, 2002 in another double-overtime tie 2-2 in Bolivar, Missouri. SBU has not lost a match at home since losing to Truman State 0-2 on Oct. 11, 2003.
Southwest Baptist returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Bearcats play host to another MIAA conference rival, Missouri-Rolla at the SBU Soccer Field at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Miners come into Bolivar with a record of 2-9-2 overall and 0-6-2 in the MIAA. |
