Mankato, MN. ... Making some noise on the regional level, the Southwest Baptist University Lady Bearcats (3-0) held off a fighting Minnesota State University-Mankato (2-1) team, 2-1, in overtime. It was Mankato's first loss in three years on their home field.

After a bruising first half, where SBU outshot Mankato 10-2, the Mavericks came after the Lady Bearcats. MSU-Mankato outshot SBU 13-5 in the second half.

The game being scoreless for 84 minutes, SBU's Pip Meo lobbed a kick over MSU's goalie Jennie Dehamer to claim a 1-0 lead off of a Hayley Moorwood assist. Not even two minutes later, MSU tied the game at one when Danni Klinsing put one in the net. With under a minute to go, MSU almost took the win but SBU goalie Sara Eppler made a game winning save to send the match into overtime.

Only five minutes into the overtime, SBU's Vanessa Toll placed her corner kick in the right spot for Meagan Zinchuk to net the winning goal.

SBU's Eppler had six saves in the match and SBU outshot MSU, 17-15. MSU committed more fouls with 14 to SBU's nine.

The Lady Bearcats will have another tough test infront of they as they host nationally ranked Christian Brothers on Wednesday, September 8th, at 4 p.m. at the SBU Soccer Field.
