BOLIVAR, MO. ...The SBU Women's Soccer Team is proving that good things do happen with the number thirteen as the Lady Bearcats completed the season sweep of Central Missouri State on Friday afternoon, shutting out the Jennies 3-0.
SBU now ranked number 13 in the nation improved their record to 13-1-2. With the shutout, junior goalkeeper Sara Eppler now has seven shutouts and is two shy of tying the school's record set by redshirt sophomore Kelsey Lueckenhoff last season with nine.
With the win, SBU now has tied the school record for most wins in a season, which was also set in the 2003 season. Also, the Lady Bearcats extend their home unbeaten streak to 10 games, which began on Oct. 15, 2003 against Northwest Missouri St.
Sophomore Pip Meo scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute off an assist from junior Ashley Munnelly to give her a team-leading 12 goals on the season. The Lady Bearcats received a little bit of help in the 27th minute when a CMSU accidently kicked the ball into her own goal. Junior Vanessa Toll put the game away in the 63rd minute, converting a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season.
Southwest Baptist doesn't get too much time to celebrate the victory as they now travel down south to Joplin, Missouri to take on regionally ranked Missouri Southern on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Forward Ashley Munnelly will be returning to her former school for the first time in a different uniform. Munnelly transferred from MSSU to SBU after the 2002 season and still to this day, currently holds 12 school records.
