Women's Soccer Keeps Playing Strong

TOPEKA, KAN. ... Valerie Chaston scored three goals as she led the Southwest Baptist Lady Bearcats (8-6/7-1) to a 4-2, win over Washburn University (4-10-1, 2-8-1). SBU was up 2-0 at halftime.

Within the first five minutes of the game, SBU was up 2-0. Chaston scored the first goal with 2:10 on the clock. Vanessa Toll then made it 2-0 on an assist from Ashley Tanner at the 4:39 mark. WU cut the lead to one with 20 minutes left in the half, but Chaston answered back with her second goal at the 40:12 mark. With under three minutes to go in the half, WU's Megan Horvath put the Lady Blues back within one, 3-2.

The second half brought a total defensive effort by the Lady Bearcats as they did not allow any shots while they took eight. Chaston added her third goal at the 64:36 mark for the 4-2 win.

SBU out shot WU, 21-5 and had seven corner kicks to WU's one. SBU's Kelsey Lueckenhoff allowed two goals, but improved her record to 8-5.

SBU will be back in action again on Wednesday, October 22nd, as they travel to Missouri Southern. Gametime is at 7 p.m.
