BOLIVAR,
MO.. ... Only
12 minutes into the match, #12 Truman State University (11-1-1/7-0)
scored the only goal they would need to win the game as they
held off the Southwest Baptist University Lady Bearcats (6-6/5-1),
2-0. TSU now takes sole possession of first place in the MIAA.
TSU’s Sara Murrray got a break in scoring the first
goal (12:39) as she popped it over SBU’s goal keeper
Kelsey Lueckenhoff to take the 1-0 lead. SBU had two chances
in the next two minutes to tie the game, but could not convert.
SBU’s Vanessa Toll took a corner kick at the 14:23 mark
and then Kendall Mim’s shot went high over the goal
(15:05).
Three
minutes into the second half, SBU’s Pip Meo lined up
a shot but TSU goal keeper Lauren Davis snagged it to stop
the scoring opportunity. At the 69:36 mark, Lueckenhoff dodged
the first shot by Ellen Wright but could not stop the rebound
on Wright’s second shot as she put TSU up 2-0 (69:44).
SBU could not break TSU’s defensive barrier in the last
20 minutes as TSU came away with the win.
Both teams
recorded nine shots while Truman had 11 fouls to SBU’s
seven. TSU’s Davis had five saves with Lueckenhoff grabbing
two.
Southwest
Baptist University will host their last home game of the season
on Wednesday, October 15th, at 4 p.m. against Northwest Missouri
State University.
