Bearcats Lose At Home

BOLIVAR
- The Lady Bearcats (11-9, 5-6) lost at home on Thursday 56-50
to Washburn.
SBU was
led by Alicia Mercer with 17 points. Gwyn Smith scored her
11th double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Also scoring in double figures for SBU was Ambr Wheeler with
12 points.
SBU shot
just 18.5 percent from the field in the first haf and was
down 28-18 at the break. Despite outscoring the Lady Blues
in the second period 32-28, SBU could not get over the hump
for the win.
The Lady
'Cats were down by double digits three different times in
the first half and never led during the game. The Lady Blues
led by 10 with 16:19 left in the game (32-22), but SBU narrowed
the lead to three with 11:43 remaining (33-30) thanks to an
8-3 run.
SBU hung
within five points for the rest of the contest, getting the
deficit to one point two different times, the last being with
1:48 left (51-50). WU's Carissa Goeglein hit two free throws
with 1:30 left, then Crystal Walker put back a missed shot
by Bethany McGraw with 30 seconds remaining and was fouled.
She connected on the three-point play to finish all scoring
(56-50).
The Lady'
Cats missed a three pointer from Amber Wheler two different
times in the last 19 seconds.
SBU shot
.350 from the field (21-60), .286 from the three-point arc
(4-14) and .562 from the line (9-16).
Washburn
was led by Walker who had a career-high 32 poin. She led the team
with 10 rebounds. Goeglein also finished in double figures. She had 10 points.
WU shot .527 from the field
(29-55), .500 from the arc (6-12) and .571 from the line (4-7).
The Lady
'Cats were again without the services of Jenni Jones and Ashley
Bland.
