SBU Wins Third Straight
Southwest Baptist 78, Truman 59

KIRKSVILLE - The Lady Bearcats started off a little rusty on Wednesday after coming off a 14-point win over Missouri Western the previous Saturday. However, SBU was quick to return to its shooting prowess after the first 10 minutes of the game, outscoring Truman 36-30 in the first half. The Lady ‘Cats went on an 11-0 run to end the first period.

SBU came back in the second half with an all-out attitude and went up on the Bulldogs by 11 (45-34) when Amber Wheeler hit a layup with 17:20 remaining in the contest.

Truman tried to charge back several times in the game, but SBU would not only hold them off, it would continue to add to the lead. SBU went up by 15 three different times in the first 10 minutes of the second period. The Bulldogs pulled within 10, but SBU again responded and Wheeler hit two free throws with five minutes left to put SBU up by 16.

The Lady ‘Cats’ largest lead (21) came with 2:05 left when Wheeler hit a jumper to put SBU up 78-57. However, with 26 ticks remaining, Jamie Huffman decreased the lead when she hit a layup for the Bulldogs.

SBU ran the clock out after inbounding the ball.

The Lady ‘Cats were led by Wheeler with a career-high 33 points. She was five-of-eight from the arc, 13-21 from the field. She also had five rebounds.

Also scoring in double digits was Alicia Mercer (10), Jenny Miller (10) and Allison Ramirez (12). Ramirez led all rebounders with eight boards.

SBU tied a school record for three-pointers by the team in a single game with 12. The Lady ‘Cats shot .545 from the field, .522 from the arc and .750 from the charity stripe.

The Lady 'Cats return to action on Saturday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Missouri-Rolla in Rolla.
