Gets Second Straight Win

BOLIVAR
- The Lady Bearcats made it clear they were out to win the
ballgame Saturday, jumping out to lead from the start to eventually
prevail over Missouri Western on Saturday, 94-80.
SBU (14-11,
8-8) returned to the .500 mark in MIAA play with the double
digit victory.
The Lady
'Cats jumped out to a 15-point advantage with 8:34 remaining
in the first half (29-14) when senior Allison Ramirez hit
a three-pointer from beyond the arc. SBU increased its lead
to 21 (44-23) with 2:44 to go when Jennifer Clymore hit a
jumper. Missouri Western would rattle off the next six points,
but SBU's Amber Wheeler nailed a three-pointer with :53 left
to go up 47-29.
Western's
Aubrey Euler cut the lead to 15 with 36 second left before
Ramirez nailed a 45-foot jumper off the glass to end the half
at the buzzer. SBU led 50-32.
More of
the same continued as the Griffons saw their deficit increase
to 26 with 13:01 remaining (64-38) after Amber Wheeler hit
one of her four three pointers.
SBU's
lead remained around the 20-point mark before Western whittled
it away to 14, outscoring SBU 11-2 in the last 2:57 of the
game.
Shooting
for MWSC was not the problem. The Griffons shot 60.8 percent
from the field and 45.5 percent from the arc in the game,
including a 70 percent mark in the first half. However, the
Lady 'Cats forced 21 turnovers on MWSC to SBU's 10.
All five
of SBU's starters and a reserve scored in double digits Saturday.
Wheeler and Gwyn Smith led the team with 20 points apiece.
Also scoring in double digits was Alicia Mercer (14), Allison
Davis (14), Jenny Miller (11) and Jenny Hancock (10). Smith
had a team-high eight rebounds.
SBU shot
.532 from the field (33-62), .526 from the arc (10-19) and
.818 from the charity stripe (18-22).
Missouri
Western was led by Nicole Lindsey (19), Steph Jones (18) and
Tamikki Williams (13).
It was
Senior Day for the Lady Bearcats who honored lone senior Allison
Ramirez.
The Lady
'Cats return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
at Truman in Kirksville.
