BOLIVAR
- The Lady Bearcts (12-11, 6-8) got the game rolling on Saturday,
outscoring the Bearcats from Northwest Missouri State (13-9,
8-6) 22-9 in the first 11:47.
SBU was
led by Jenny Miller with three steals in the first part of
the game. The Lady 'Cats had six altogther in the first nine
minutes. However, the green and white Bearcats finished the
first period with a 22-9 run to tie the game at 31 on a Jane
Chalmers layup at the buzzer.
The beginning
of the second period resembled the end of the first with Northwest
Missouri State going on a 16-2 stretch to start the second
half of play. The visitors led by 10 (47-37) with 11:42 remaining,
but SBU used a 15-6 run to tie the game at 53 with 2:48 left
in the game. The Bearcats of Northwest outscored SBU 6-2 in
the final moments of the game. The Lady 'Cats turned the ball
over with seven seconds left and a chace to tie the game down
only by two (57-55).
SBU was
led by Alicia Mercer with 16 points. Allison Ramirez had a
double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. All of her rebounds
came on the defensive end. Gwyn Smith added 11 boards and
eight points.
SBU shot
.367 from the field (18-49), .333 from the three-point arc
(6-18) and .722 from the charity stripe (13-18).
NWMSU
was led by Sarah Vollertson and Chalmers with 13 points apiece.
Chalmers led the team with eight rebounds while Jenna Wolfe
added 10 points.
