Wins MIAA Opener

BOLIVAR
- The SBU women won their fifth-straight MIAA opener on Monday
by defeating
Missouri-Rolla, 84-58.
The women
had five individuals in double figures including Gwyn Smith
who had a game-high 19 points. She also led the team in rebounds
with seven. Also scoring in double digits was Alicia Mercer
(14), Jenny Hancock (13), Allison Davis (11) and Jenny Miller
(10).
Hancock's
13 points all came in the second half of the game.
The Lady
Bearcats shot .478 from the field (33-69), .182 from the arc
(2-11) and .640 from the charity stripe (16-25).
SBU led
at the half, 38-24, and outscored its opponents 46-34 in the
second period.
UMR was
led by Leah Kessenich with 18 points and Leah Maunus with
10 points. Kessenich led all players with 10 boards.
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 when it hosts Missouri Southern
at 1:30 p.m.
