BOLIVAR
- The Lady Bearcats wasted no time Saturday defending their
home floor and jumped out to a 22-11 lead over Harding in
the first 7:43. SBU went on to win the game 74-53.
SBU led
40-29 at the half and then outscored their opponents 34-24
in the second period.
The Lady
'Cats were led by Amber Wheeler with 25 points. The freshman
was two three-pointers shy of tying a school record of eight
threes in a game set by Kim Francis on Nov. 19, 1993 against
Missouri Baptist.
Also scoring
in double digits for SBU was Gwyn Smith (13) and Alicia Mercer
(10). Smith had a double-double on the evening after pulling
down 14 rebounds.
The Lady
'Cats hit 31-62 shots from the field (.500), eight of 14 attempts
from the three-point arc (.571), and only four of 14 throws
from the charity stripe (.286).
Harding
was led by Tiffany Phillips with 11 points and Heather Lawrence
with 10 points. Lawrence also had a double-double after getting
10 rebounds. Misty Tuley led the team with 12 boards.
SBU returns
to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. EST when they face
Minnesota-State Mankato in Disney's Holiday Classic in Orlando,
Fla.
