Loses to No. 7 Washburn

Kan. - Despite outscoring the Washburn Lady Blues on Wednesday
48-38 in the second half, the Southwest Baptist Lady Bearcats
could not overcome the 31-point deficit they faced at halftime.
The No.
7 in the nation Lady Blues jumped out to a 35-9 lead over
SBU in the first period and never looked back. SBU was 2-12
from the field in the first 10 minutes and it took 13:53 seconds
for the Lady 'Cats to get to double digits. Gwyn Smith connected
on the second of two free throws to put the score at 35-10
with 6:07 left in the first.
It wasn't
until there was 51.4 seconds left in the half before SBU hit
20 points after Jenny Miller hit two free throws to put the
score at 48-20.
SBU was
outrebounded in the first half 28-11 and only shot .241 from
the field (7-29), .167 from the three-point arc (1-6) and
.500 from the charity stripe (5-10).
The Lady
'Cats shot .462 from the field in the second half (18-39),
.667 from the arc (8-12) and .500 from the line (4-8).
However,
Washburn was hot Wednesday, no matter where they seemed to
throw it up from, it went. They shot .523 from the field,
.667 from the three-point arc and .867 from the line. They
Lady Blues were six of eight from the arc in the first half
(.750).
WU scored
38 points in the pain to SBU's 12.
The Lady
'Cats were led by Allison Ramirez with 16 points. Amber Wheeler
and Gwyn Smith both had 11 points, while Smith led the team
with 11 rebounds.
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Central Missouri
State at 1:30 p.m.
