- The Lady Bearcats led at halftime Saturday, 37-32, but were
outscored in the second period, 38-30.
The Lady
Cats were called for 16 second-half fouls compared to
NWMSUs seven. SBU led by as many as 10 points in the
second half.
The Lady Cats led 67-65 with 3:04 left in the ballgame.
Four fouls were called against SBU in the last 2:27 seconds
and NWMSU hit a layup and three free throws to win the game,
70-67.
SBU was led by Amber Wheeler with 23 points. Also scoring
in double figures was Jennifer Clymore and Gwyn Smith with
10 points apiece.
SBU shot .383 from the field (23-60), .400 from the arc (8-20)
and .813 from the charity stripe (13-16).
SBU scored only 12 points off the bench compared to NWMSUs
32. The green and white Bearcats also outscored SBU 32-18
in the paint on Saturday and had 22 points off of Lady Cat
turnovers. SBU scored only 13 points off turnovers.
The score was tied eight times and five lead changes occurred,
including three in the last nine minutes of the game.
SBU returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when it hosts Pittsburg
State at 5:45 p.m. in Davison Field House.
