Drops Game To ESU

BOLIVAR
- Despite holding the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association's No. 1 scoring team to 21 points below its season
average, the SBU Lady Bearcats could not hold off the Lady
Hornets of Emporia State and dropped their first game of the
season inside the confines of Davison Field House, 60-55.
SBU led
34-27 at the half, however, Emporia State outscored the Lady
'Cats 33-21 in the second period.
ESU took
its first lead of the ballgame with 18:38 left in the game
and the lead changed hand a few times before SBU regained
it on a Jenny Miller jumper that made the score 38-37.
At the
15:53 mark, Amber Wheeler hit a three-pointer to make the
score 41-37.
The Lady
'Cats led by seven twice after that, but at 6:18, Kristie
McClain tied the game with a jumper.
At the
1:46 mark, McClain hit a free throw to put the score at 54-53.
The Lady Hornets hit four free throws in the last 15 seconds
to put the game away.
ESU outscored
the Lady 'Cats 21-9 in the last 9:46.
The Lady
'Cats were four-of-16 from the field during that time, including
0-7 from the three-point arc. SBU shot 25 percent from the
field in the second half (8-32), which includes a 12.5 percentage
from the arc (2-16).
SBU was
led by Alicia Mercer with 14 points. She had 10 points in
the first half. Also scoring in double figures was Allison
Ramirez with 12 and Amber Wheeler with 11.
The Lady
'Cats shot .389 from the field (21-54), .227 from the arc
(5-22) and .800 from the line (8-10).
SBU returns
to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Maryville against Northwest
Missouri State at 1:30 p.m. Due to scheduling conflicts, the
game will not be broadcast.
