BOLIVAR
- The Lady Bearcats (9-4, 3-1) started the gam with an 8-0
run, but allowed Central MIssouri State to tie the game at
13 with 14:40 left in the first half.
It was
a see-saw game for the next nine minutes with five ties until
SBU when on a 9-0 run before the Jennies (6-7, 1-3) made a
layup with 1:16 left in the half to put the game at 39-32.
The closes
the game got in the second half was three points, twice, with
the last being when 16:08 was left on the second half clock.
But the Lady Bearcats used an 18-7 run to lead the Jennies
63-49 with 6:21 left in the game. Both sides traded scores,
but SBU hit 10 of 12 free throws in the last 1:04 to take
its fifth straight home victory.
Leading
the Lady 'Cats on Saturday was Gwyn Smith with 20 points and
10 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Alicia Mercer
(18), Jenny Miller (15) and Amber Wheeler (14).
SBU averaged
.520 from the field (26-50), .455 from the three-point arc
(5-11) and .742 from the charity stripe (23-31).
The Jennies
were led by Jena Shackelford with 19 points and five rebounds.
Also scoring in double figures was Kinsey Lehe (15) and Lisa
Millham (11).
The visiting
team hit four of seven three-pointers in the first half.
CMSU averaged
.500 from the floor (26-52), .353 from the arc (6-17) and
.875 from the line (7-8).
SBU returns
to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 5:45 p.m. when they host
arch rival Emporia State in Davison Field House.
