BOLIVAR, MO. … Missouri Southern’s Dacie Reutlinger banked in a last second shot with 00:00.7 left on the clock to advance the Lady Lions over Southwest Baptist (8-7/2-4), 69-67. Reutlinger grabbed teammate Aubrie Hallman’s missed shot with 00:02 left and then laid in the winning shot off the backboard.
SBU did not help themselves in the last 3:33 as they did not hit any shots. With 3:33 to go, the Lady Bearcats had an 11-point lead, 67-56, before MSSU (11-4/3-3) started their run. SBU had a chance to win the game with 13 seconds left but missed the shot.
Jenny Miller led SBU with 12 points as she made four three-pointers. Both Gwyn Smith and Jennifer Clymore had 10 points. MSSU’s Aubrie Hallman led all scorers with 19 points.
In the first five minutes of the game, SBU took a eight-point lead, 15-7, only to see MSSU tie the game at 15 with 12:17 to go in the half. Over the next seven minutes, SBU had a 19-7 run to their lead to 12, 34-22. The Lady Lions outscored SBU in the final 4:44, 16-9, to cut the lead to five at the half.
An 8-0 run by the Lady Lions to start the second half put MSSU up by three, 46-43, but SBU answered with their 10-2 run for a five-point lead, 53-48, with 13:03 left in the game. SBU kept the lead between three and six points over the next seven minutes and then pushed the lead to nine, 67-58, with 3:33 to go in the game. That three-pointer by Ashley Bland was SBU last made shot from the floor. MSSU then started their run to win the game.
SBU shot 43% from the floor, 47% from three-point range, and 66% from the free throw line. MSSU ended the game shooting 44% from the floor, 27% from beyond the arc, and 72% from the free throw line. MSSU out rebounded SBU, 37-34.
