SBU COMES AWAY WITH WIN IN CLASH WITH THE BAPTISTS

BOLIVAR, MO. … After falling behind 9-0 in the first two minutes of the game, the Southwest Baptist University Lady Bearcats (4-1) rolled off a 29-9 run in 13 minutes for a commanding 11-point lead on their way to a 48-point victory over Missouri Baptist, 91-48. SBU shot 52% in the second half and scored 53 points to MBU's 18.
Being down 14-4 only five minutes into the game, SBU had a 15-5 run for a 29-19 lead. With 1:16 to go in the half, Gwyn Smith put SBU up by 15, 38-23.
In the second half SBU started out on a 9-2 run and extended the lead to 22, 49-27, on a Jen Turpin layup. MBU brought the lead back down to 19, 49-30, on an Amanda Richardson three-pointer. That is as close as they would get to SBU as the Lady Bearcats reeled off 22 straight points for a 71-30 lead. With 4:24 to go in the game, Amber Wheeler gave SBU a 51-point lead, 84-33. SBU then would lead by 54-points twice on a shot by Natalie DeGraffenried and Wheeler.
Gwyn Smith lead SBU with 23 points as there were five Lady Bearcats in double figures. Trisha Lyons, Jen Turpin, and Casey Beavers all scored 12 points and Amber Wheeler had 10. Beavers lead all rebounders with nine.
SBU was outrebounded 45-43 but forced 32 turnovers and had 20 steals. They also held MBU to just 28% of their shots from the floor.
The Lady Bearcats will take on Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Monday, December 6, in Edwardsville, Illinois at 5:30 p.m.
