COLD SHOOTING KEEPS SBU OUT OF GAME

BOLIVAR, MO . ... A cold front hit Davison Field House on Saturday afternoon as the Southwest Baptist Universtiy Lady Bearcats (14-11/6-10) only shot 28% from the floor in a 68-54 loss to Pittsburg State University (11-13/6-10). SBU also shot 23% from three-point range.
Amber Wheeler recorded 19 points as she tied the SBU record for three-point attempts at 14 that she set on Wednesday vs. UMR. Jennifer Clymore added 15. For PSU, Kami Scrivner led all scorers with 21 points while Stephanie Shanline had 19.
PSU ran out to a 6-0 lead in the first minute but SBU battled back to tie the game at eight at the 14:01 mark on a Wheeler three-pointer. PSU went back on top, 12-8, before SBU tied the game again at 14 (12:22). With 11:45 to go, two Wheeler free throws gave SBU their first lead, 15-14. That lead only lasted one minute as PSU's Melissa Watkins put PSU back ahead. PSU kept the lead, again, until the 4:31 mark when Wheeler hit two more free throws to put SBU up by one, 23-22. This is the last lead that SBU would see. In the last four minutes of the half, SBU only hit one shot as PSU went up , 30-25, at halftime.
The second half was not much better for SBU. PSu ran their five point-lead to 11 in the first two minutes, 36-25. With 13:23 to go, SBU did cut the lead to eight, 38-30. This was also the final time that SBU would have cut the lead to single digits. PSU responded with an 8-0 run to put the game away with a 16-point lead, 46-30. PSU kept the lead for good and had their largest lead of 17 at several different times.
PSU shot 44% from the floor and 42% from three-point range while out rebounding SBU, 43-36.
SBU will play their final game in Davison Field House on Tuesday, February 24th, vs. Central Missouri State at 5:45 p.m.
