PITTSBURG, KAN.. ... In the last five minutes of the game, the Southwest Baptist Lady Bearcats (10-3/2-2) hit their last six shots and went five-of-seven from the free throw line to seal a four-point win over the Pittsburg State University Lady Gorillas (7-5/2-2), 63-59. Alicia Mercer and Amber Wheeler both hit back-to-back free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the game to help SBU.

Junior Gwyn Smith had her best outing in the scoring column as she posted up 21 points and led the team with six rebounds. Wheeler added 11 points while Jennifer Clymore had 10. PSU's Kami Scrivner had 22 points for the Lady Gorillas.

SBU shot an astounding 48% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. They were outrebounded by PSU, 38-32. The Lady Bearcats didn't let PSU make any three-pointers as the Lady Gorillas were 0-11 from beyond the arc.

PSU ran out to a quick 6-2 lead before SBU tied the game at six on a Clymore jumper. After being down 6-2, SBU put together a 18-4 run to claim a 10-point lead, 20-10, at the 9:10 mark. PSU cut the lead to six, twice, but the Lady Bearcats put added a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 13, 31-18. The Lady Gorillas finished up the first half with two free throws to trim the lead to nine, 33-24.

The Lady Gorillas slowly scrapped away at SBU's lead in the second half. With 15:05 left, they were within three points, 37-34. SBU would then run the lead back to eight points, 43-35. Over the next eight minutes, SBU would only score three points as PSU together a 14-3 run for a three-point advantage, 49-46, with 5:34 left in the game. The Lady Bearcats did not panic as they retook the lead a minute later, 50-49. PSU did hit another bucket for the lead, 52-51, but SBU controlled the final 3:30 hitting their shots from the floor for the victory.

SBU will be back in action again as they host UMissouri-Rolla at 5:45 on Tuesday evening in Davision Field House.
