Baptist’s Monica Martinez was honored by the coaches
in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association when
she was named to the All-MIAA honorable mention team.
Martinez, a 5-11 freshman outside hitter from Houston, Texas,
helped lead the Bearcats to a 10-24 overall record. The 10
wins is more than the previous two season-win total combined.
The freshman set a new school record this season for kills.
Her 417 kills is the most by any SBU volleyball player in
a season. Martinez had a .184 hitting percentage along with
29 service aces. She was second on the team with 309 digs.
Martinez had 35 solo and 20 assisted blocks this season. She
played in all 34 matches for SBU.
