Volleyball Signees - 2008

Ashley Jurgensmeyer
Ashley Jurgensmeyer, a 6'1 middle hitter from Osceola has decided to join the Lady Bearcat team this spring. Jurgensmeyer was a 3 yr All Conference, All District, All Region and All State selection. She joins the Lady Bearcat team this spring after transferring from Evangel University where she was a member of the EU Crusader basketball team.

Why Ashley chose SBU : I really like the school and team atmosphere. I also enjoy the coaching staff, and think that SBU is a great fit for me.

Coach Richardson's Comments : Ashley is a very strong player that will definitely make an impact on our floor. She joined us in January, and has had the opportunity to work out with the team this spring. Ashley will be a big offensive and defensive threat for us this fall, and we're very excited that she has decided to make SBU her new home!

Katie Dusenberg
Katie Dusenberg, a 5'10 middle hitter/outside from Lebanon High School ahs signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Lady Bearcats. Katie was an All Conference, All-District and All-Regional player. She was also apart of the Lebanon Tournament All –Tournament Team. Katie also received Academic All-Conference. Katie has been playing volleyball for 6 years, and was a member of the Club Bear Volleyball Club as a senior. She is also a member T.A.L.E.S. and NHS.

Why Katie chose SBU : I knew that balancing athletics and academics would not be a problem at SBU. I also like that while I will be getting an education I will also be growing spiritually. I love the friendly atmosphere and how it feels like home.

Coach Richardson's Comments : Katie is an extremely talented volleyball player that has yet to hit her full potential. Katie was a standout middle at Lebanon, but will be making the transition to outside hitter this coming fall. Katie can go up and execute at the net, and will most definitely be a great addition to our offense. She is very coachable, and is a hard worker. We're very glad that Katie has chosen to make SBU her new home!



Megan Massie
Megan Massie, a 5'8 setter from Mt. Vernon High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Lady Bearcats. Massie was a 3 yr All Conference and All District player, and was an All Region selection her senior year. Massie also won the Ms. Hustle and Outstanding Setter Award her sophomore through senior years. Massie holds the career assist record for Mt. Vernon High School. Megan has been a member of the Club Bear Volleyball Team throughout her high school career.

Why Megan chose SBU: I chose to go to SBU because I really enjoy the campus atmosphere and the morals of a Christian University, and Lady Bearcat volleyball player!

Coach Richardson's Comments: Megan will be an outstanding addition to our Lady Bearcat Team. She knows how to deliver the ball to her hitters at all times, and effectively runs the court. She demonstrates great leadership skills, and works extremely hard. We are very excited that Megan has decided to make SBU her new home!

Abbie Ferrie
Abbie Ferrie, a 5'8 outside/defensive specialist from Raymore Peculiar High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Lady Bearcats. Abbie was a 4 year letter winner, and a 3 year All Conference Selection. Abbie was voted most valuable player as a junior, and was awarded the “Panther Award” as a senior. This award is given to an athlete that that demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and overall qualities that represent Raymore Peculiar High School. Abbie was also an All Region selection her senior year. Abbie has played club volleyball for Team KC since she was 12 years old.

Why Abbie chose SBU: I picked SBU because after meeting the girls and the coaching staff I knew I couldn't pass up an opportunity to be part of such a positive and growing program.

Coach Richardson's Comments: Abbie is a great addition to our Lady Bearcat Volleyball Team, and will bring consistency and strength to our defense this fall. Abbie keeps her passes on the mark, and can also go up and take a very aggressive swing. She is a disciplined player that will come in and push those around her to play at a high level. We're very excited for Abbie to join us this fall!

Nicole Murphy
Nicole Murphy, a 6'1 middle hitter from Jefferson City Helias High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Lady Bearcats. Murphy is a 2 year All District and All Region selection. She was a member of the 2006 & 2007 Class 4 District Championship Teams, and a member of the 2007 Sectional Championship Team. Murphy holds the school record for kill percentage. She is also a member of the Yearbook staff, and Trinity Senior Youth Group. Murphy has played for Central Missouri Volleyball Club for 7 years.

Why Nicole chose SBU: I really like the school, team and coach. I'm looking forward to playing at this level of volleyball.

Coach Richardson's Comments : Nicole is definitely a force to be reckoned with at the net. She owns her 6'1 stature, and always steps on the floor ready to compete. Nicole will bring a strong offensive and defensive threat for our front row. We look forward to seeing what Nicole can do at this level. We're very excited that she has decided to join our Lady Bearcat Team!

Elsey Hopkins
Elsey Hopkins, a 6'0 middle hitter from Glendale High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Lady Bearcat Volleyball team this fall. Elsey was a 3 yr. letter winner at Glendale High School where she led the team in kills and blocks. Elsey also earned All Conference, All District, All Region and All State honors as a senior at Glendale. Elsey has played for Midwest Xplosion/Club 417 during her high school career.

Why Elsey Chose SBU:

Coach Richardson's Comments: Elsey is an extremely talented player that will bring strength and consistency to our floor this fall. She does a very good job between the pins, and puts up a strong block. Elsey will be able to come in and be a strong force at the net for us. She has a very high ceiling, and we're very excited to see what the future holds for her. We're very happy that Elsey will be joining our Lady Bearcat Team this fall!

Rachel Sawyer
Rachel Sawyer, a 6'0 middle hitter from Bolivar High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Lady Bearcats. Rachel was a 3yr starter at Bolivar High School, and earned All Conference, All District, All Region and All State honors her senior year. She was also a member of the 2007-08 Class 3 State Championship Basketball Team. Rachel is also an All State runner in track, a member of FCA, and FTA. Rachel played club ball her senior year for Springfield Juniors Volleyball Club.

Why Rachel chose SBU : – I chose SBU for its academic excellence, Christian values, and for the athletic challenge.

Coach Richardson's Comments : Rachel has really come into her own this past year in volleyball. She is most definitely a very strong athlete, and succeeds in all that she does. We're very excited to see what this level of volleyball holds for Rachel. I know that she is going to push herself and those around her to be the best they can be. We look for Rachel to come in and be a strong force on our front row. We're very glad that Rachel has decided to join the Lady Bearcats!

Kylie Heim
Heim, a 6'1 right side hitter, comes from a very successful Nixa volleyball program. Heim was a 3 year Varsity Letterman. She was named to the Ozark All Tournament Team in 2005 as a sophomore, and was a 2nd team All Conference and All District selection in 2006 as a junior. As a senior, Kylie played on 3 All-Tournament Teams, and was 1st Team All-Conference, All-District and All-Region. Kylie also helped lead the Eagles to the Class 4 sectionals as a senior.

Coach Richardson commented: "Kylie is an extremely dedicated player that will help push our Lady Bearcat Team in the right direction. She always steps onto the floor focused and ready to go. Kylie is the type of high energy player that our program is looking for. We're very excited that Kylie has decided to join our Lady Bearcat Family!"
