trACK OPENS OUtdOOR SEASON WITH 4 SCHOOL RECORDS AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

April 2, 2005 ST. LOUIS, MO...The SBU track teams opened their outdoor season with four school records at the Washington University Invitational yesterday in St. Louis.
Football athlete Terry Jones once again proved he is one of the premier sprinters in the MIAA, as he clocked school records in the 100m with a 10.71, and in the 200m with a time of 21.98. He placed 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m.
NCAA indoor All-American T. Jay Sanderson opened his season with a victory in the 1500m run. He assumed the lead with 600m left and fought the wind to a 3:56.89.
Corey McElhaney and Andy Joggerst performed well in the men's 800m, with McElhaney placing 6th in 1:57.67 and Joggerst right behind in 11th at 1:59.75.
Austin Bunn led the distance group with his 15:46.90 in the 5000m run, which was over a 15 second personal best. Senior Tom Miner crossed the line in 16:41.55.
In the men's sprints, SBU fielded a 4x100m relay team for the first time in over 6 years. Michael Pearl, Nate Wilson, Zach Porter, and Jones safely passed the baton around the track for a school record 42.85. Pearl returned in the 100m dash to run 11.44. Porter led the 400m group with a 53.83 time and was followed closely by Brian Robinson, who posted a 54.18. Adam Peery ran 55.27, and Todd Christensen finished in 58.76.
Steven Cross opened his outdoor throwing campaign with a toss of 35.18 meters (115' 5") in the hammer. Brian Winckler, in his first time ever throwing the men's shot put, heaved the 16 lb ball 7.44 meters (24' 5"). Nate Wilson rounded out the men's field events with a 20' 1 3/4" leap in the long jump.
In women's action, Amy Broadhurst smashed the former SBU record in the 1500m by 8 seconds with her time of 4:47.76. She placed 3rd.
Alyssa Maggart posted a 5th place finish in the 800m run with her 2:23.95.
Christine Showler ran 18:55.01 for 5th place in the 5000m. Jenni Doke was not far behind in 19:25.31. Rounding out the 5k participants from SBU were Kristin Dickerson in 21:54.08 and Erika Anderson in 24:00.89.
In sprints action, Kristen Blinzler ran 1:05.33 for the 400m dash, followed by Lindsey Christie, who ran a personal best 1:08.58. Erika Lane completed the 200m dash in 30.09.
The track team will travel to Springfield this weekend to compete at the SMS Big Bear Invitational.
