trACK TEAMS RACK UP FOUR MORE SCHOOL RECORDS AT CMSU CLASSIC
February 19, 2005
WARRENSBURG, MO...The SBU track teams traveled to CMSU yesterday for a "tune-up" before next weekend's MIAA Indoor Conference Championships. That "tune-up" resulted in the demise of another 4 school records, tallying the total for this indoor season to 13 between the two squads.
Sophomore Amy Broadhurst once again led women's action, winning the 800m in 2:19.82. That mark surpassed the former school record of 2:23.19 by over three seconds. Also breaking the record was freshman Alyssa Maggart, who only last week had missed it herself by 2 hundredths of a second. Maggart finished third in 2:22.75.
In the 600yd, freshman Lisa Hicks used a brilliant last lap to shatter the school record in that event by almost 3 seconds. She finished second in 1:30.72, thus taking the record from teammate Alyssa Maggart, who had broken it herself only 3 weeks ago.
Maggart, Broadhurst, Kristen Blinzler, and Hicks once again broke their school record in the 4x400m relay, running 4:17.59 to lower the former mark by exactly one second. They finished 6th.
Christine Showler was the runner-up in the mile, finishing in a personal best of 5:22.28. Erika Anderson broke the tape in 7:03.39.
Blinzler headed the sprint corps with her indoor season bests of 8.65 in the 60m and 28.05 in the 200m. Also posting a lifetime best was Lindsey Christie, who dipped below 30 seconds in 29.69. Erika Lane rounded out the sprinters in 30.99.
In the 3000m, Jenni Doke improved her season best by 13 seconds and went on to finish 5th place in 11:20.29.
On the men's side, the Distance Medley Relay team of Corey McElhaney, Terry Jones, Andy Joggerst, and T. Jay Sanderson broke the CMSU Fieldhouse record and their own school record with a winning time of 10:15.58. They are currently the 17th best relay in the nation; however, they will have to improve their mark at the conference meet this weekend to secure a ticket to the NCAA Championships in Boston.
Nate Wilson had two top-8 finishes at the meet. He made the finals in the long jump and finished 6th with a leap of 20' 7", and later came back to post an indoor personal best of 23.32 for eighth place in the 200m.
In the 400m, freshman Zach Porter ran an indoor best of 53.01 to finish 7th overall. Adam Peery posted a 56.56, and came back in the 200m to run 25.49.
In other sprints action, Michael Pearl clocked a 7.29 in the 60m dash, which placed him 15th in the final standings.
Todd Christensen ran an indoor best in the 600yd of 1:25.10 for 11th place.
In distance action, senior Austin Bunn placed 5th in the 3000m run in 9:17.09.. Teammates Tom Miner and Michael Haub competed in the mile run, running 4:44.44 and 4:53.55, respectively.
Steven Cross made the finals in the 35# weight throw for the second time this season, and his toss of 41' 11 1/4" earned him 6th place.
The team will compete in the MIAA Indoor Championships held at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, on February 25-26.
