SANDERSON RUNS 2nd FASTEST MILE IN NCAA divISION II; trACK TEAMS COMPETE AT ARKANSAS, CMSU

FAYETTEVILLE, AR...T. Jay Sanderson toed the line Saturday at the Powered by Tyson Invitational hoping to run a national qualifying time in the mile run. He did that and more, winning the second section of the mile in 4:10.28, the 2nd fastest time in the country this year. That time should earn him a trip to Boston for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 11-12.
Terry Jones also posted an incredible performance at the Tyson meet. Running in the first indoor 200m of his life, the first time ever on a banked indoor track, and drawing the worst lane possible (lane 1), Jones ran a national qualifying time of 22.25 in the 200m dash. That time broke the SBU school record of 22.86 by over a half second, and ranks Jones 25th in the nation in that event. He also competed in the 60m dash earlier in the day, running 6.99.
The rest of the men's and women's track teams competed Thursday and Friday at the Mule Relays held at Central Missouri State Univesity.
Corey McElhaney led the men by winning the 800m run in 1:58.03. Teammate Andy Joggerst was not far behind, placing 5th out the the 35 person field in 2:00.18.
In the men's 5000m run, Austin Bunn placed 9th overall in 16:12.48. Tom Miner led most of the 1st section, and crossed the line in a personal best 16:19.68 for 12th overall. Mike Haub was 19th in 17:02.75.
Nate Wilson ran an indoor personal best in the 200m of 23.49. Teammate Zach Porter had difficulty negotiating the tight turns of lane 2 and finished in 24.44. Wilson also competed in the long jump, jumping 20' 0 1/4".
In other field event action, Steven Cross threw 43' 0 1/4" to place 19th in the 35# weight.
Michael Pearl improved on last week's performance in the 60m dash, running 7.28.
Todd Christensen made his indoor debut in the 600yd run, finishing in 1:27.03, and Adam Peery ran 55.95 in the 400m run.
Amy Broadhurst's school record performance in the women's mile highlighted performance for the Lady Bearcats on Thursday. Broadhurst finished 3rd in 5:17.07 to break the former record by 3 seconds.
In the 800m run, Alyssa Maggart missed the SBU school record of 2:23.19 by two one-hundredths of a second, running 2:23.21 to place 7th. Lisa Hicks finished in 2:33.63.
Christine Showler began an impressive drive to the finish from 600m out to finish the 3000m run in 10:47.10. She placed 5th in the event, and is well within striking distance of the SBU record of 10:44.01.
The 5000m run saw Jenni Doke run 20:16.20, with freshman teammate Kristen Dickerson crossing the tape in 21:22.15.
In sprints action, Kristen Blinzler posted times of 8.68 in the 60m and 28.34 in the 200m. Also competing in the 200m were Lindsey Christie and Erika Lane, who finished in 30.25 and 30.94, respectively.
The Lady Bearcats ended the day in the 4x400m relay, with Maggart, Broadhurst, Hicks, and Blinzler teamming up to finish in 4:19.66.
The squads will return to Warrensburg on Saturday to compete in the CMSU Classic.
