SBU TAKES ONE GAME FROM PITT STATE

PITTSBURG, KS. … After being shell shocked by Pittsburg State on Saturday, Southwest Baptist bounced back to split the MIAA series with the Gorillas. SBU took game one, 2-1, winning the bottom of the eighth inning but then fell 7-1 in game two.

With the gam tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Southwest Baptist took on the challenge of the Gorillas. With one out, Amy Marshall singled and then advanced to third on a PSU error that allowed Mary Nguyen on first. PSU then decided to walk Kyleigh Savas to load the bases With the bases loaded, Martin hit a shot to right field, but was thrown out at first. It did not matter, though, because it was enough for Marshall to come across home plate for the winning run.
PSU scored their only run in the top of the first inning. SBU tied the game in the fourth inning when Nguyen came home on a Martin ground out.
Martin had both RBIs for SBU. Five different SBU players had one hit. Martin also won her third collegiate game as she pitched a complete game. She recorded four strikeouts and give up five hits.

PSU scored quickly in game two picking up six runs in just two innings. Tiffany Holman came in for relief in the bottom of the second and pitched the final 5.1 innings only allowing one run.
SBU had four hits all from different players. Cheratin Dunn brought in SBU's lone run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to score Martin.
Lyndsey Fisher took the loss.
SBU will play in the Maplewood C.C. Tournament this weekend. SBU finishes MIAA play at 2-16 and broke their MIAA losing streak this season. They are 15-36 on the year, their most wins since the 2000 season when they won 16 games. |
