PSU NIPS SBU IN TWO GAMES

PITTSBURG, KS. … After being shutout this weekend by Pittsburg State, Southwest Baptist almost pulled off two wins in Pittsburg as the Gorillas won, 6-5 and 4-1. Both games were non-MIAA games.
Game 1

Trying to run down the third out in the bottom of the seventh inning, a SBU throwing error led to the winning run for PSU as they took the game 6-5. SBU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cheratin Dunn singled home Tara Phillips and then the Lady Bearcats added two more runs in the third inning to make it 3-0. Two doubles brought in both runs. Emilee Bounds doubled in Mary Nguyen and then Dunn doubled home Bounds for the 3-0 advantage.
PSU answered back in the fifth inning when the put up three runs to tie the game at three. SBU bounced right back by adding two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Deanne Bolin hit her second collegiate home in left centerfield to score Brittnay Schuber and take a 5-3 lead.
The Gorillas shot right back with two of their own runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at five and then scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Nguyen was 4-of-4 in the game and Dunn was 2-of-4 with two RBI. Tiffany Holman took the loss and fell to 4-5 on the year.

PSU claimed a quick 1-0 lead in the second inning but then SBU tied the game at one in the top of the fourth. Bounds nailed her third HR of the year in a solo shot to centerfield.
SBU then gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as PSU went on for a 4-1 win. Lyndsey Fisher took the loss for SBU. Deanne Bolin, Tiffany Holman, and Bounds were all 2-of-3 in the game but Bounds had the only RBI and run scored.
