NWMSU TAKES TWO CLOSE MATCHES AWAY FROM SBU

BOLIVAR, MO. … In two very close MIAA games, Northwest Missouri State (22-13/3-2) came away with the sweep of Southwest Baptist (13-27/1-11), 4-2 and 3-1. SBU and NWMSU battled to the end in both games as NWMSU won game one in extra innings.
Game 1

SBU took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The first two batters, Amy Marshall and Mary Nguyen, both singled and then advanced to second and third base on a Kyleigh Savas sacrifice bunt. Stephanie Martin singled home Marshall to make it 1-0.
The one-run lead was kept until the top of the third inning when NWMSU scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
SBU tied the game in the bottom of the third inning at two. Martin recorded her second RBI of the game when she doubled to right center field which brought home Brittany Schahuber.
The next four innings were scoreless and it was not until the top of the eighth that NWMSU scored. With two outs, NWMSU had the bases loaded brought home two runs on an infield error by SBU trying to get the third out. SBU could not get the bats working in the bottom of the inning as NWMSU took the win.
Martin took the loss and fell to 1-8 on the year. She also led the team in batting as she was 2-of-3 with 2 RBI. Marshall also had two hits.

Game 2
NWMSU 3, SBU 1
Game two was almost identical to game one only SBU did not get a hit when they needed it.
NWMSU scored right off the back in the first inning on a SBU error.
SBU tied the game at one in the bottom of the second inning when Laura Teschner came home on a throwing error by the catcher.
NWMSU added one run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead. SBU had a chance to put more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth as they had two runners on with no outs but could not advance them into scoring position.
Tiffany Holman took the loss for SBU and Martin, Teschner, and Cheratin Dunn each had one hit.
SBU will host nationally ranked Missouri Western at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
