SBU GETS BACK TO WINNING WAYS WITH SWEEP OVER NORTHER ST.

BOLIVAR, MO. ... Southwest Baptist University took two games away from Northern State (1-3) as they won in the bottom of the seventh 5-4 in the first game and then shutout NSU in the second game 8-0. SBU improves to 9-9 on the year with the two wins and now has won six out of their last eight games.

GAME 1

[Game 1 Final Stats]

Freshman Lyndsey Fisher singled home Amy Marshall for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as SBU claimed a 5-4 win. Fisher also took the win to improve to 3-1 on the year.

SBU put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Emilee Bounds brought in both Jenny Bailey and Mary Nguyen for the first two runs and then Bounds came home two batters later on a error by the third baseman. Deanne Bolin singled in the fourth run as she nailed a ball to centerfield, bringing in Tiffany Holman.

NSU answered right back with three runs in the top of the second to cut the lead to one. It was not until the top of the seventh that NSU tied the game with two outs. NSU had a chance to take the lead but SBU's Fisher got the final NSU batter to ground out with a runner on third base.

SBU's Bailey walked to start the inning but was then thrown out at second on a fielder's choice. Bounds then singled Bailey to third and Bounds advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. Fisher then smashed a single to right center bringing home Marshall for the winning run.

Tiffany Holman started the game but only went two innings allowing three runs on six hits. Fisher finished the game for the win and had two strikeouts, one run, and four hits.

Kyleigh Savas, Emilee Bounds, and Mary Nguyen each had two hits. Bounds and Fisher both recorded two RBI.

GAME 2

[Game 2 Final Stats]

It was another story in game two as the game ended in the fifth inning and a score of 8-0 in favor of SBU. It was not until the second inning that SBU scored two runs. Savas doubled to left field with one out to bring home Mary Kim Dothager. Bolin then brought home Cheartin Dunn with a single through the left side of the infield.

SBU made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning Bounds cracked her second home run of the year. The Bearcats added four more runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. Marshall brought in the first run with runners on second and third as Nguyen came across for the first run. Bounds picked up her third RBI of the game when she singled in Tara Phillips. After Jenn Bailey singled to the catcher to load the bases, Dunn singled home Marshall for the third run of the inning. Savas was then hit by a pitch for the fourth run.

SBU then went three-up and three-down in the top of the fifth as all three batters grounded out to finish the game.

Laura Teschner pitched all five innings to improve to 2-0 on the year. She only allowed two hits in her first collegiate shutout and walked one batter.

Bounds led SBU with three RBI and had two hits. Marshall and Cheratin Dunn also had two hits.
