BOLIVAR, MO. ... In non-conference action, Southwest Baptist (3-6) fell at the hands of Missouri Southern (8-4), 5-1 in game one and 9-3 in game two at Bolivar High School on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME 1

[Game 1 Final Stats]

Freshman Stephanie Martin struck out 10 and only allowed three hits en route to Southwest Baptist's first win in the 2005 season, 6-1. This win also marks the first win for Head Coach Cindy Snead. Amy Marshall went 3-4 against Williams Baptist, including a triple, a double, a stolen base, and two rbi's. Tara Phillips also went 2-4 with two runs scored, and an rbi.

Freshman Tiffany Holman followed up Martin's earlier pitching display with a five-hit shutout including striking out 13 in the 1-0 victory over Newman University. Kyleigh Savas scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth by doubling to lead off the inning, advanced on a sacrifice from Tiffany Holman, and then scoring on a passed ball.

Pitching in her second game of the day, Stephanie Martin went another strong seven complete innings, striking out 11 batters, and only allowing three hits. The strong effort went for not as SBU fell for the first time in the tournament, 1-0 to Central Methodist. Shortstop Bridget Geisendorfer of Central Methodist scored the game's only run the exact same way how the Bearcats won the second game of the day, off of a passed ball in the top of fourth inning with two outs. Laura Teschner, Mary Kim Dothager, and Amy Marshall all had two hits each in the losing effort.

GAME 2

[Game 2 Final Stats]

In the semifinals of the Silver Championship, Southwest Baptist's Tiffany Holman pitched a complete nine innings, striking out seven, and only giving up four hits to Lindenwood University for the 2-1 victory and advance to the Silver Championship game. No runs were scored until the top of the eighth when Kyleigh Savas doubled home Jenny Bailey with two outs and scored the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth when Tara Phillips scored on a passed ball. Holman improved to 2-1 on the season with the win.

In the championship game, SBU ran out of gas, losing to Columbia College, 6-0 in five innings. Stephanie started her third game in two days, but only pitched one inning, giving up one run. Freshman Lyndsey Fisher pitching in only her second game of the season, went the rest of the way for the Bearcats. Emilee Bounds, Brittany Schabuber, and Ciera Fenton all singled for SBU as the Bearcats take second place in their first tournament action of the season.
